Thompson Grand Canyon Interview with Hamilton Nov. 3, 1930. 1000. He doubts this number. Game have always been scarce here owing to scarcity of water; except coyotes & bob- cats, which have always been plentiful. Nov. 3 1930 Trip to Yavapai Canyon Distance 35 miles from G.C. [illegible] This trip was taken to look over the proposed extension southwest of the park. The territory is entirely covered with pinyon pine, juniper & sagebrush, as well as other chaparral plants, but no yellow pine. Hence there could be no lumbering. Grazing is the only other possible use of the land as this area is very dry. He saw about 10 water holes. But owing to the open nature of the cover & large old burned over areas, the land would be ideal for antelope & deer.
