383. A dense forest of fir and spruce runs up the canyon interspersed with aspen groves, rocks and snow stiples. Undergrowth of Mountain Maple Alder grass and wild flowers is dense. The whole canyon area like the other cirques in the Never Summer Range is wonderful summer range for elk & deer and higher up for sheep. Oygadensus (death camas) is abundant in the canyon & along the damp places. About timberline we saw 3 bucks with antlers in the velvet perhaps 2/3 developed. All were grazing in little meadows, and were about 1/2 mile apart. Marmots & conies numerous. A small cirque lake lies west of Baker Guleh just above timberland. Pipits were numerous here with half grown young. Two of the young floated out into the lake and drowned. The canyon turns north behind & just west of Baker & runs into a natural pass down into North Park. Indian arrowheads were numerous too. This area is within the Routt National Forest. Trails are numerous.
