Two Band-tailed pigeons flew about
the trees over the Sheep lake.
Sheep Lake July 17, 1933.
About 7:30 PM Father & I drove
by Sheep Lake. Two female mallards
were observed in the lake, each with
a family of about 12 young (it was
impossible to get the exact number
because of the water growth). It is
reported that one or two raise a
family there every year.
I have seen no sign of the
muskrat so commonly seen in
these ponds in 1930.
Grand Lakes July 18, 1933.
This afternoon John Mac Laughlin,
Mother & I drove to Grand Lake.
Not even a marmot was seen along
Trail Ridge. The day was cold and
stormy.
At Grand Lake, John & I about
drove
2 miles southeast of the Outlet
and climbed the trail to the
fire look-out on the ridge just
south of the lake. The outing route
lay through medium sized lodgepole
pine, characteristically dense.
