367. Petrified Forest June 14, 1933. Range shows overgrazing. Cattle have grazed in the area for years. Some cattle still graze in the monument. Range characters: Blender wheat grass, widespread Other bunch grasses present Atriplex canescens, some Atriplex confertifolia, common Chrysothamnus sp. plentiful dogbrush Either Gutierrezia or small Chrysothamnus Antennaria tridentata rare? common " " common but not abundant. The range looks good for antelope. Supt. Smith reports that antelope have always. George Hennessy, a cattle inspector says the range dwellers of antelope have have been here for 50 years. Roy Duberville, state live stock comm. has about 2,000 head of cattle. About 200 antelope ranging on his property & he wants to get them into the monument. 38 antelope on Aytee Land & Cattle Co. at southwest corner of park. Another band of 30 antelope range just southeast of park on State & U.S. Lands.
