363.) Between El Tovar & Desert View June 4, 1933. The area east of the village over- browzed in the past shows recovery obtained in the last 2-3 years. Cowania, sagebrush, the little jakes, service- berry, young yellow pines, etc., are showing new herbage on the lower browzed limbs. In general all the area south and east of the village which I saw is improving. There is an area covering perhaps 5 miles east & west along the pine road, near Grand View, near the water holes, which is severely overgrazed at present. This is the concentration area of Buggelin's cattle. Cowania is just about as hard as on the Kaibabi winter range. Cales, & all else, is browzed to stubble. Brookes reports that Buggelin browzes runs 400 head of cattle from south entrance road, east to Lippins Point, 5 months of the year - June 1 - Oct. 31. This, in lieu of 200 cattle all year, as former Babbits run 110 head west of village. 900 head of sheep also perambulated in western portion of park.
