Grouse seen on North Rim, but
never south of river.
Porcupine winter below south
rim. There are more now
than formerly.
Beaver plentiful in part in
Shinumo & Bright Angel, & in
Hermit, along river.
Otter seen at mouth of Bright
Angel creek in early 90's. Cubs see
one winter & one another winter.
Tracks seen about same.
Band-tailed? Pigeons, saw 2 last
year. Very rare.
Gambel Quail always very scarce.
Wolves never along canyon, but
around S.F. mtns.
Elk: Navajos say that elk used
to be on S.F. Mtns. One winter in
heavy snow, elk forced down
& Indians killed them all.
No bear ever on South Rim.
