356. or Jump-up Point in the Kaibab winter range. It is in much better condition as regards grazing than the territory between the monument & Fredonia but it is already over- grazed & erosion setting in. Very little grass is present in the portion we saw. It is the best winter sheep range in the region. Possibly 40,000 sheep winter in the region. There is no water. Sheep leave as soon as the snow goes. A few deer are reported down on the points of the plateau at the river. Sheep will have to be permitted in the area for many years but their numbers should be restricted. The area will never support a great number of deer. There the region is to arid and the browse is limited. It is similar, in general, to the South Rim.
