or Jump-up Point in the Kaibab winter
range. It is in much better
condition as regards grazing than
the territory between the monument
& Fredonia but it is already over-
grazed & erosion setting in. Very little
grass is present in the portion we
saw. It is the best winter sheep
range in the region. Possibly 40,000
sheep winter in the region. There is
no water. Sheep leave as soon as
the snow goes. A few deer are
reported down on the points of the
plateau at the river.
Sheep will have to be permitted
in the area for many years but
their numbers should be restricted.
The area will never support a great
number of deer. There the region is
to arid and the browse is limited.
It is similar, in general, to the
South Rim.
