352 Draining 27 miles of Juweef Valley could perhaps held permanently for antelopes. As much as their normal movements would be prohibited this seems to me as a justifiable compensating step. Kent reported that he had just taken 1500 head of cattle out of the antelope area & driven them up toward the Hummulles. The range shows severe over-grazing, although the porous character of the soil seems to prevent erosion. The cattle however must have been exceedingly poor because 12 of them were so weak they bogged in the lobo bed & died. Locoweed was quite common on the range, although not nearly so prevalent as on the range between there & Fredonia. On the Sandrockes today 2 Cinnamey Ground Squirrels were seen and tracks of one coyote. Birds seen were: White-throated Swifts Pintor Jays Sharpow Hawks, a pair courting Gnat Catchers Wormed Sarks Rocke Wren Olive Sided Flycatcher Purple Finches?
