Zion Nat'l Park
Interview with Harold Russell April 29, 1935.
Hopsians who graze sheep in n.w. corner of park said that a cougar which they saw killed 14 sheep in one night in fore part of August and on other nights other killed - 7 in one night.
Deer seem to be increasing. About 18 died from some unknown cause last summer - thought to be from a disease caused by eating too many
Probably no coyotes in the canyon, but are on rim.
Bobcats getting fewer. Much trapping around park - have caught bobcats, foxes, ringtails.
Racoons used to be abundant in Zion before it was a park, but now have gone almost. No coon tracks seen in last few years.
Coons plentiful in prefat West Canyon.
Mt. Sheep: One female caught east of park & brought into park & fed all winter. Released this spring & not returned. Nothing known about those Round Ridge Mt.
