has been covered in the 4 days riding thus far and the deer seem to be mostly west of the Slide-jump-up road; from there to the breaks or points along Snake Gulch & Kanali Creek. That means that perhaps a little over half of the range west of the bare hills is used by the deer during the critical part of winter, and it is this critical portion of the range which does not show sufficient improvement, it seems to me.
There has been some discussion of the percentage of the deer we see in our counts. In some restricted sections, such as the points, we probably see from 1/2 to all of those present but in the broken country all back of the points, it seems to me that we do not see more than from 1/5 to 1/10 of the deer present. The counts are not taken automatically by cross section but we go out to hunt for deer consequently we do not get a true cross section. This makes the estimate problematical.
