West Kaibab Deer Range
March 6, 1933.
Today we rode over the jumpup pasture,
from the cabin, west to the Point,
then north along the points on
Kaibab Creek & then diagonally back
to Camp. The whole range is very
poor, heavily browsed, much of
Cowania killed, what remains is
scarce and heavily browsed. Juniper
& sage constitute the most of it. There
appears to be no recovery anywhere.
This is the worst we've seen in the
three days ride.
2 Jacks Rabbits seen
2 Bald Eagles (immature or else
golden Eagles).
Jump Up to Little Springs, March 7, 1933
The range seen today showed very
little recovery, as a whole, and out
on many of the points it appeared
to show no recovery. Everywhere
the plant composition is the
same, except that perhaps more
Cowania was around Slide. Four
recently dead deer were seen by
us & 1 by the other parties. Coyote
tracks were all around the
carcasses, and perhaps 10 other
tracks were seen. Last night
