330. Next Kaibab Winter Deer Range March 4, 1933 Deer counted by all parties Total 837 recent dead 7 By parties: Willow Canyon 172 Table Rock 353 West Slide 312 Our trip to Willow Canyon west, south to back to Slide disclosed deer always in small bands hidded in juniper pockets protected from a cold north wind. Bands ranged in number as follows: 14, 9, 16, 13, 27, 9, 9, 29, 15, 21, 10, 10. The range shows improvement everywhere, as compared to its condition 2 years ago. It gets progressively worse toward the points on Snake Gulch. Cowania, sprouts range up to 11 foot long, especially on the lower browseal stumps. But out toward the points these sprouts are browsed almost to nothing. Same is true of Cphedra, much of which has been actually killed. Sage shows the most marked recovery. It is literally covered with new brush shoots.
