July 30, 1932
Conference with Bagley, Miller &
La Nore.
It is decided that La Nore shall
be in charge of bear control hereafter.
Any control measures are to be kept
from the public as much as possible.
After much discussion for and
concerning fences or other mechanical
devices to protect property, the follow-
ing was decided:
1. The problem is to be treated as a
local problem. No lengthy report
is to be sent the director. When
control measures are necessary,
bears shall be quietly disposed
of and reported later.
2. La Nore will carry on experiments
with bear repellents both at
Canyon with a Pyrene gem for
several days, and by spraying
garbage cans at Thumbcuff with
creosote & chloride of lime.
3. Next year, perhaps, concrete food
containers with iron doors
may be erected by each table
in the Thumbcuff camp ground
and an attempt made to
prohibit all feeding of bears there.
It shall be made a foodless
camp, so far as bears are concerned.
