does not look safe to me. A better
fence or wire entanglement should
be put in for the present or if
this is to be the permanent station
then a high concrete ramp should
be put around 3 sides of the audience.
This afternoon Ralph & I tried ammonia in a pyrene gun
on about 12 bears & cubs. The bears
were frightened in every case & ran
away, but they paid no attention
to the ammonia. If ever returned to
the car in a few minutes. The
experiment appears to be a total
failure. I intend to try it again
tomorrow.

to Thumb to Mammoth.

The experiment with the Pyrene gun
& ammonia. Ten more bears were
sprayed, making a total of 22.
5 of them were sprayed only once.
4 of them were sprayed 3 times each.
1 of them was sprayed twice.
In each instance they were frightened
and ran a short distance away.
In a few cases they shook their
heads and appeared to undergo.
