Crater Lakes Interview with John Mayben. Oct. 16, 1930. Fur Bearers about the same as always: mink, marten plentiful. fisher, 4 tracks seen scattered over park winter of '28; wolves in the region, but scarce. cross foxes plentiful around ring, estimate 50. Otter in region but not reported in park; no Mt. sheep nor goats here. Mayben thinks sugar is too soft in winter for them. Snow is more equated north of Pinnacles Desert. Elk were given in park so far as he knew, but are on increase now; deer also, bobcats here; no lynx; bears are plentiful and Mayben thinks that park bears are rarely shot outside. Most bear shooting is done over or Seven-mile Mt. where park bears don't go. Beaver in park. Mayben thinks that a game refuge around the park would be very beneficial.
