Old Faithful 310. Thompson July 27, 1932 6:50 P.M. 17 black & brown are counted between the dormitory & the feeding grounds inclusive of those at the ground. The grizzlies are still in the timber. Most of these blacks are very large - there are no cubs among them. Besides those, we have seen 1 yearling & 1 black with 2 cubs in the camp area; and along the road, 1 black with 2 yearling cubs, 1 & 1 bleb with 1 cub. This makes a total of at least 26 black bears seen in the vicinity this afternoon. There are others which I have seen on other occasions. Grizzlies seen at the platform: 1 adult with 3 cubs 1 " " 1 light faced cub 1 " " 1 yearling 1 " " 2 cubs / 1 " " 2 cubs 2 2yr olds about 14 other adult grizzlies visible. During the lecture the mother with the light cub repeatedly ran up to the left of the audience to protect her cub. At one time 6 grizzlies chased each other off to the left.
