Canyon
July 21, 1932
Had 2 holes about 15 inches each
Torn in the sides. 1 car had the
runningboard rack torn off, and a
tear had collapsed the tent by
standing on it; 1 car had the
top torn in several places—tears
about 3" long; 3 parties, besides
those listed already, had kept
watch practically all night
without sleep.
No one talked aggressively again
the park administration but all
parties were as upset as anyone
is when his property is destroyed.
One sedan had the blade window
smashed while a couple were sleeping
in the car. Those people were rather
irate when I talked to them.
Another party of 2 cars together
had the kitchen box torn off early
in the night. The man watched their
camp the rest of the night, until 5:30.
They all urged that something be done
immediately to improve the situation.
Practically everyone suggested a fence
around the camp ground, and a reduction
of bears. Everyone says he is entitled
to some protection. Those who have
lost property feel that it should be
replaced by the government.
