Canyon 291. July 18, 1932 a nuisance. Out of 11 parties in the camp I questioned 4 about the bears'. They all said you have to guard your food & dishes even minute. "We spent half the night clearing the away & they gave up. They are not dangerous but that is such a nuisance, that 1 night is enough." Garage Mess: The cooks say they do not feed the bears. They shoot them with a sling shot. They affirm this keeps them away. A concrete trough containing 3 garbage cans sets outside the back door. It is no longer used. The cook said that last year when the trough was used, there were so many bears around it all night that the night watchman could not sleep. Since then, the garbage has been kept in the building with a metal door. The cook says this has practically done away with the bear depredations. The two black cubs of the black bear killed last Tuesday were in the top of a tree by the kitchen
