Canyon 289 July 18, 1932 Report of man at incinerator: About 7 cans of garbage per day after sorting. 1 sapele of oiled mixed tin. about 1/2 to 2/3 of a can of bones, peelings, etc. comes back each day. Each place is collected once a day. Hotel Lodge Cafeteria & house keeping Govt mess above 10-11:00 AM 9:30 A.M. 3:30 P.M. 7:30 A.M. There is about half as much garbage this year as last. (13-14 cans last yr.) He feeds a few bears to keep them away from the camps. While I was there a young black bear in good condition with 3 small black cubs came to incinerator. The attendant opened his gate & fed them a few shovelfuls. While they were eating 2 large black bears wandered in from different directions. Immediately the mother pushed the cubs up the tree & chased the others about 200 ft. before stopping. The garbage man suggests a battery of sapeles such as he has for bear feeding garbage, to be placed in camps grounds for campers food. He doesn't think that bear-proof
