Canyon 288. Thompson July 15, 1932, was weighed, however, after skimming with the following results: green grizzly skinned carcass 38 3/4 lbs. total length of carcass from nose to tip of tail 67" height of shoulder 36 1/2" circumference of neck at base of skull 26" length of third foot 9 1/4" length of front foot 8 1/4" circumference of front ankle 9 3/4" circumference of hind ankle 10 1/2" circumference of forearm 15 1/4" circumference of third leg below the knee, just the shoulder 15" The stomach was filled with garbage and a little chewed green herbage, unidentified. Mammoth July 16, 1932 The day spent in roughing out grizzly skeleton. The men at the Mammoth Incinerator said that this morning about 5 AM, 2 grizzlies were at the garbage pile just beyond the furnace. They ran into the Gardiner Canyon when the men got up. Coyotes howling nearly had awakened them. This is the first grizzly they have seen at Mammoth in the 3 years they have been here.
