Canyon
2861
Yellowstone
July 15, 1932.
This afternoon I drove to Canyon
with George Bagley. At the ranger
station we met Dr. Bryant, Subst.
Foll, Mr Edwards & Dr Bauer to
discuss the Canyon situation.
Dr. Bryant thinks there should
be some way of abusing the
bears such that they would
become frightened & not loiter
in the camps and along the
roads. Mr. Foll thinks some
such liquid gun should be
perfected & asked that George
Wright & I do so. None of them
are yet willing to admit that
any great expense for fencing camp
areas & bear proofing garbage
cans, parking areas, etc., is
justifiable.
Dr. Bryants party left in a few
minutes for Old Faithful. George
Bagley & I went to the seating
ground. This evening there were
more sets of cubes than last,
and the whole crowd of grizzlies
more agitated. They constantly
roared & fought, and rushed from
the platform to the woods (to the
left of the audience where no one was
protected) and back.
