Thompson 72 Medford Oregon Interview with Judge Colvig. October 15, 1930. Judge Colvig made his first visit to Crater Lake in 1863. He has been in Medford ever since, and has had an interest in outdoor life. He has a good memory & tells a rational story. Antelope were along Antelope Creek in the early days. Colvig never saw them, however. They were also on Sprague River. In 1863, Colvig saw antelope on Blue Bee Creek, a few miles west of park boundary. Antelopes are out by Sten's Mt. now. Elks were last seen by the Judge at Skookum Prairie 1878. He saw 3 at this time. The same year, Ed Farlow killed the last elk at Jackson Springs. The Judge thought this was the last elk kill record in the county.
