hompson Next Shumle 278. July 11, 1932 through the camp grounds lingered an hour near the store, then wandered ½ mile toward Lake & returned by 6:00 P.M. Everyone stopped to see, photograph or feed them. People showed no fear nor common sense. They flock out, surround the bears, get between the cubs etc; feed them about ¼ of the time. The bears of this family are a constant menace to everyone who does not know how to act. They will climb into any car if they have the opportunity. All of the bears were seen to eat quantities of white clover throughout the afternoon, as well as the tips of grass occasionally, and even the tips of pine & fir. There is no incinerator, but it is to be constructed. Garbage from Hamilton store & the cafeteria is handled separately each supply, being hauled off & burned in pits. The govt. wood garbage is also burned in a pit. No one seemed to know how often the public camp garbage is collected, but I think it is collected only in the morning. Bears visited the garbage cans practically every hour of the day.
