West Thumb 276. Thompson July 11, 1932 This morning a large black and 2 good sized cubs were holding up. The cubs looked so large I could not decide whether they were 6 or 18 months old but I think 18. Two cars were stopped, cubs in middle of road; adult standing by back car. Adult climbed on fender & then half way in front door. Just then man from front car ran toward bear & it backed out. The two cars then went on. This is the usual incident: At Thumb a large brown tore the upholstery on the truck seat while I was away. There was no food in the car but the bear had been inside the seat. The entire afternoon at least one bear was wandering through the public camp ground - sometimes several bears were in sight at once. Practically every tent was visited within an hour. Nothing was safe unless guarded. People in the camp ground did not seem to like the bears. They chased them away regularly. Several dogs were present but the bears ignored them. During the latter half of the afternoon I watched the black & twin cubs. They came
