kills the beetles, at about 85.0 Elk range sometimes down in the Union Tp. area. There were some grass areas, but not extensively. Some Plorquinie scars were seen. Mr. Fort Hubbard said that Grizlys were abundant here at one time. The last one was killed about 1885. Elk he said, were exterminated here about 1890. He called them the "Sine-back Elk." Wolves & Cougars were also abundant at one time, but have been systematically hunted & trapped by state trappers. Deer are more abundant than 10 years ago, but are far fewer than in the early days of this region.
