Yellowstone July 4-5, 1932.
The Ospreys in Yellowstone Canyon.
All young had fledged & left the nest. Several of what appeared to be young were flying around the canyon. They swooped from higher to lower elevations smoothly & seemed very certain of the landing in each case. They flew over the stream but did not try to catch fish to my knowledge. One finally flew to the nest & preened for about 10 minutes. Another one (apparently adult) sat about 50 yards away & called incessantly. Finally the juvenile flew across to the adult, seemed uncertain of the landing, then lit on the adults back where it balanced for about 30 seconds. It then got off & stood in front of the adult. The adult made no effort to disengage itself.
