Davis & I then left and Dr. Castler stayed in the blind. in an hour, one Swan returned to the nest and after considerable investigation it climbed on the nest watched a long time, then dried off the breast with the necks bill, & settled on the covered eggs without uncovering them. After some minutes, it pushed the grass aside with its feet & settled for incubation. After some time Dr. Castler made some moves to frighten the swan. The swan showed but slight fear, but dipped & spread its wings. It came almost up to the blind, back & forth dipping & spreading the wings. Finally he was forced to frighten the bird away from its incubation because it stayed so long.
