Lower Redrocks Lake Montana 257 June 18, 1932 Arrived at Lakeview about 11:20 A.M., and went to the Montana club. Mr. Tibbets the custodian said there were only 9 Trumpeter Swans (which does not agree with Berger's account). He also said that many swans have been killed by hunters. He himself has killed many pelicans on the lake because he says that they were taking the grayling which came up the river to spawn. I saw 23 pelicans on the lake today. We found 2 swan's nests each with 4 eggs, and one pair of adults with 4 cygnets which appeared to be 2 or 3 days old. One of the swan's nests was made entirely of marsh grass; the other was mostly of tule with a lining & covering of grass. This latter was measured & photographed. Measurements: Bottom of nest 6'3" + 6'1" Grown of nest 2'1" Depth of nest 3 1/2" egg length 4 1/2" Circumference, small end of egg 2 3/4" " " large " 3 1/4" " " at largest place 6" Eggs were buff colored, some blood stained. A blind consisting of umbrella covered with green cloth & tubes, was constructed.
