Pelican Creek

Yellowstone June 15, 1932
from the near house. As we did so
a large beaver swam out and
downstream to the other house.
The roof was quite thin. The inside
of the house was a mere depression
in the bank just above water.
Some fresh grass were scattered on
the floor of the house. The nest
was clean. A slight beaver odor
permeated the nest. The room was
just large enough for an adult
beaver to turn in comfortably.
Only 2 Canada Geese were seen
on the tentative hiked, which was
in contrast to the large flocks of
40-70 seen about the same time
last year.
About 10 American Mergansers
were found along the river, a few
tmallards, 1 pair of buffle heads, many
pairs of Barbour's Golephye, many
courtin spotted sandpipers, a few
Calif. gulls, and a number of crows
and ravens.
Bear and coyote tracks were each
seen once along the creek. Pelican
Creek was highly muddy - fishing
was unsuccessful. Two white pelicans
and 1 kingfisher were seen on the
trip also. Thunder storms in the afternoon
