Trumpeter Lake mpson 246. Yellowstone June 13, 1932 Grinwald showed me a Spotted Sand- piper's nest with 4 brown spotted eggs. The nest was in the grass about 10 feet from the River bank (Slough Creek). He had also found another one on the opposite shore. As we returned, it had become quite dark. A young badger, looked about 1 year old since it was 3/4 the size of an adult, was blinded by the lights just as we approached the Yellowstone River bridge. The badger was confused, but finally started to run across the bridge. It attempted to jump through the iron lattice of the railing, then ran on up the road. Grinwald got out and chased it for about 200 gardes to see how fast it could run. He easily overtook it. It ran ahead of the car for about 1/4 mile, then disappeared in the dark. A few miles west of Crescent Hill a band of elk cows crossed in front of the lights. I could not count them all but I thought there were about 20 adults & 10 calves of this year. Three of the calves were confused & walked in front
