Tompson
To Trumpeter Lake

Yellowstone
June 7, 1932
Coote City road and the junction of Slough Creek & the Lamar River. The 2 little muddy lakes in the junction corner had a narrow fringe of tules, and a small tule island. Only 1 unidentified duck was on the water as I approached & it flew away. Muledeer & Spotted Sandpipers were around the margin.
As I first left the road, a coyote watched me from the brow of the hill. It kept retreating but watch the rest of the evening. It was seen 6 times, after disappearing each time. Calf cows and new born calves were scattered all through the region, as well as antelope. A den (very probably coyote) was found under a large boulder in sage brush 6 ft. high. This den is almost in the center of this moraine country. An elk calf was hiding within 10 feet of the den. The den shows signs of current use. I hope to watch it this summer to find what the coyote does to the game of the little region.
Prismold reports seeing a pair of coyotes in the same area the previous day.
