Mammoth to Molly Islands 237.
Yellowstone June 4, 1932
About 2 miles below the cataract of the Yellowstone River two male American Mergansers were seen to catch a fish & struggle or flourish within it. A gull flew in to take it away from them. At this juncture a Bald Eagle swooped snatched the fish & flew away with it.

To Trumpeter Lake
Today started cloudy. It rained & snowed from 12:30 to 4:00 PM.
En route to Trumpeter Lake just about half way down the east slope of Crescent hill we met a very large female brown bear with 2 cubs. The cubs were thin and much darker than the adult. She was a light tan with very long prime coat & in wonderful condition. A car stopped behind us to take her picture. She put her fore paws upon the glass & looked in, but the cubs did not come near the car. No one tried to feed them and they soon went off into the forest. These are the first cubs I've seen this season & only 2 bears previous to this. Am anxious to see if she develops into a "hold-up" bear.
