Madseiv Elle Plan 232.
Yellowstone May 30, 1932.
have more elle and the park would have its elle only in the
proper season & under proper conditions. Glenn Smith & Bill Rush are in accord with this plan & are working toward it. It is hoped that the new Montana Game Commission will be sold on the idea.
Under this plan, Madseiv thinks the northern herd could be built up to 15000.
It is our opinion that this is the only solution. However under the present overgrazed winter range conditions we are very much opposed to even maintaining the herd at its present numbers until suitable winter range is procured. Madseiv agrees with this.
It is worth noting here that while this plan will forever keep the elle from being 'natural' in the park, such an ideal condition cannot be attained under present conditions. And this proposed plan would be preferable to the present which causes elle to starve to death each season range to be overgrazed & opposition to the Parks from local sportsmen.
