Tompson Crater Lake Interview with Godfrey Chief Ranger 67 October 11, 1930 There is no winter police force in the park except Godfrey himself, and he has one horse. Therefore, the boundary cannot be patrolled. Godfrey has seen blazed trails for trap lines in the southern portion of the park. These blazes were made in winter. On the west side of the park, a trapper's tent & equipment are still cashed in a tree. Godfrey is sure that winter poaching goes on. The park has marked fox & fisher. There is no wintering ground for deer. With the first heavy snow they are driven down into the Rogue River watershed which exposes them to hunters in the open season (Sep. 15- Oct. 15). Bear wander out also gare shot but there seems to be a plentiful supply at present. Some Coyotes reported. No wolves nor cougar definitely known although both were here originally. No wolverine known.
