east boundary. Biologically, it would be far more natural for the park boundary to follow a natural barrier such as a mt. crest, than the artificial line, following stream courses for the most part. Park animals range naturally to the mt. summit, and they are killed during open season. As it is Rainier is almost an isolated island from the game & forest point of view and with the converging of the 3 new highways at Ohmso Pass, the park area will need every protection available. This region least of the park to the summit should certainly be in the park, or else be a game preserve. However, the region is sufficiently scenic & rugged to warrant annexation on that basis alone. The game situation within the park needs no comment except that the bear problem is increasing. Deportation has been tried without much benefit namely because the park is too small for this method.
