105017 215 Yellowstone May 19, 1932 reduced the range will continue to deteriorate. George suggests that the elk be reduced 1000 per year by hunting, until the carrying capacity of the range is reached and range recovery is apparent. A white-tailed jackrabbit was seen in the sage brush. One ear (left) was slit to the base. The rabbit ate grass within ~30 ft. of me then very slowly stretched, first putting its fore legs out stretching the thorax next and lastly the hind legs far out in back, as it stretched with its belly close to the ground. Then it began to creep away like a cat legs stretched out in backs moving very slowly by jerks (as in a comedy) but with all four legs working separately. It took movies of the process. It was very amusing. Finally the rabbit hopped away. Two elk were seen about 1/2 mile back of the administration bldg. Four antelopes were seen feeding on the talus slope across the Gardner River. Birds identified: Clarkes Crowe, Crows, Magpie, Mt. Bluebird Robin, Vesper Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Osprey, Pet-tail,
