General Impressions of the
Park.
Oct. 6, 1930.
The Bear Prairie region is too
isolated to give any great danger
to deer wintering there. It is also,
reported to be very lightly hunted
during open season.
No specific problem seems to
present itself here.
The Clear Fork region is the
critical one for wintering deer.
Poaching in winter is rampant here.
The Park limits are killed off in
this region also, and if there
were upholders, they would meet
the same fate. The law is not
enforced. If this area were made
a game preserve, it is questionable
whether it would be patrolled any
more effectively. If it were made
a part of the National Parks, its
patrolling would be assured & the
game protected. But the region
is not outstanding scenically,
except for beautiful forest.
We traversed the section east
of the park to the summit of the
Cascades as far south as Phinney
Pass, which is halfway down the
