mpson 209. Winnemucca Lake May 19, 1932. Cooper of Pyramid Lakes says there are no islands in Winnemucca Lake nor pelican breeding grounds. The drive by Nye Co. Pinte Indian Agency to the southern end of Winnemucca. The lake had receded at least 2 miles from its former shore line due to diversion of the Truckee River water. Nowater was running in this branch of the Truckee when we were there. The land made available by recession of the lake is now fenced and had a few head of cattle. It appears to be very poor range. The lakes has a picturesque setting but is exceedingly desolate. I can see nothing of National Monument caliber in it, although there may be distinct species of fish here which are found nowhere else. He did not drive the 30 miles to the north end of the lake because there appeared to be nothing to justify the trip. At the lower end of Pyramid Lakes we saw 1000 pelicans (counting & estimating) feeding & resting in & near the mouth of the Truckee River. This was about the same time the count at Cauchos Island was made the previous day. He have prob'ly seen 2500 white pelicans at Pyramid Lakes all told.
