Yosemite N.P.
Nov. 29, 1931.
Trif around Yoe. Falls trail & River.
On the north side of the valley we saw a
flock of Golden Crowned Kinglets foraging
in the snow & in the trees. Their characteristic
wing flip seemed ill adapted to the ground
but natural in the trees. We could not see
what they ate. Others seen were:
Titmouse 2, Robin 1, Towhee (Spotted) 1, Stellar
Jays many, Bush Tits, many; Willow Woodpecker 1
Cali. Woodpeckers several, Canyon Wren 1,
A Pileated Woodpecker was seen on the south
side of the valley by the Fourmile Trail
yesterday.
The Tule Elk bugled this morning.
Chickarees & Stellar Jays are very abundant
this winter.
Nov. 29, 1931
Near the Rangers Club this morning
a buck & 3 does were seen. The buck
sniffed of the ground & then stretched
his head & neck horizontally with
nose wrinkled as they are seen to do
during the rut. This may perhaps
be a sign of rut instinct still evident.
The Tule Elks have bugled all morning.
Snow is melting in the mevery
rapidly, but it is still a foot deep on
the level & on the south side of the valley.
