Yosemite Valley N.P. Nov. 28 (1931)
Interview with Colonel Thompson, Supt.
Fire Fighting: The first fire of importance since the Colonel arrived occurred in the Hahona district this last summer. From his experience in this fire, he says that there will be no adequate fire organization in the future. But rather, the entire administrative organization of the valley will be transferred immediately to the fire & each person trained in his department will function at the fire just as he does in regular park routine. This seems very desirable to me.
Nov. 29, 1931.
George Wright hiked from 8:00 AM till 11:00 AM, going over the Yosemite Falls Trail to the Lodge, down below the Lodge to the Merced River, & up the River to the Ranger Club. He saw 7 deer, including a Black Tail doe which George photographed, and 2 bucks. All but the bucks were on the sunny talus slopes along the Yosemite Falls trail. Two does were bedded down under a Sibocebyns at 8:30 AM, on a patch of bare ground in the sun. Deer tracks were numerous there. The mangenta had a deer line! The 2 bucks were seen along the river. No other signs of animal life were seen along the river.
