Thompson 195 Yosemite N.P. Nov. 28, 1931 Interview with Colonel Thompson, Superintendent Jule Elle: There is the possibility of placing the elk in Eleven Mile Meadow. The Colonel thinks there is enough forage there to take care of them, with possibly some hay feeding in severe winters. But after discussing the Elle Reserve proposed west of Bolcafield, the Colonel thought it would be better to take them out of Yosemite entirely & place them in the Reserve. He proposed this program: 1. G.M.H. write the Director suggesting this move, & explaining the idea of a northern & southern San Joaquin division of the herd. This would ensure greater safety for the remaining elk. c.f. Store's letter on the elk. 2. Colonel Thompson will see others concerned & get their consent. He will try to raise enough money to pay for shipping the elk to the Reserve, & help with the initial feeding. 3. In the meantime, we will all try to interview the proper parties to develop the idea of moving the Jule Elle from Yosemite to a suitable reserve in the San Joaquin.
