Yellowstone Natl. Park Beckley Station Trip July 24, 1931 Ruddy ducks each stayed in a pool about 15 ft. across and would not fly away. I'd thought, perhaps, it was due to molting. 7 Gray Ruffed Grouse were seen 12 miles west of Beckley. One of them stopped within 20 ft. of the road & strutted & "clucked" at us. Finally, after getting its picture they all flew away. One of the fire fighters said grouse were very abundant in the Caribou Forest! Jerry Yetter, the ranger at Beckley says there are many moose in this region - more than in the Thorofare. A bear had been around the truck while we were gone.
