017P507 183 Grand Teton National Park July 9, 10 and 12, 1931 Trip to Bailey Lake about 2 1/2 miles north- east of Johnson's Ranch. Trail, more but way light through dense lodgepole forest with thick mat of grass, lupine and dwarf blueberry on ground. The lake lies in a swamp 2 miles long and 1/3 mile wide with dense marsh grass knee high. A few cattails remain in a few scattered patches, and the marsh stream is full of water lilies. The lake is shallow. A floating muskeg about 100 ft. long is just the south end of the lake. Swans might nest there if tubers were available but there are none, and Fessler has never seen swans on this lake. 2 Beaver houses were on the lake, with beaver trails leading out toward the willows surrounding the swamp. A loon and one young were swimming on the lake. Two female mallards were seen.
