Thompson Yakima Park 6500 to 7800 ft. Oct. 2, 1930. A very clear day. Snow had fallen & melted 4 days earlier. A large Black Bear ran off across the valley just north of Sourdough Mt. toward Kuchelallay Park. The bear had seen us at least 1/2 mile away, & kept looking back at us at intervals as it ran. Yet, the men at the camp reported no bears in this district. Fox tracks were seen upon the trail along the crest of Sourdough 1/2 mile above the camp. By the evening as we returned, we saw fresh fox tracks along the same trail goin in the opposite direction. There were bushy Pikas in this the rock fields along the trail where the Fox went. Pixen found a large old Wolverines tracks down in Berkeley Park, and we found another (probably the same wolverine) upon the Waroughs Mt. 3 mile away. Roby Finchel, Pipits, Clark's Crows abundant. The Sharp Shined Hawk chased a Gosbawk.
