Tompson 175. Rocky Mt Natl Park June 30, 1930, McGraw Ranch Trip. About 9000 ft. el. on this same slope, we saw a very large male grouse, which flew out of sight. It was very dark with light neck patches & white tip of tail. All the way down the slope about 2 mi. we followed elk trails. Elk droppings were all over the ground. One deer was seen. In the bottom of the valley, along Cow Creek is a thicket of aspen, willow, alder, rubies, wild rose, misc bark jamacia, ferns & grass. It is ideal for elk in winter it shows very little browsing. The entire winter range here is in good condition. 5 chickarees seen during morning. Birds identified: 1. Hornet Hawk 2. Ruby-Crowned Kinglet 3. Warbling Vires 4. Crossbill 5. Crested Jay 6. Robin 7.
