159. June 11, 1931 North Side Trip 2nd stop A '20'+'20' plot fenced in 1925 5 aspen from 5'-7' high, and 0 miles 5 smaller aspens. Goldman, with SVT. says that in 1917 this was the condition of the forest every upine good where. One yellow pine 1" diameter straddle; and 8 ft. high, as compared with muberry some stulbrous outside 2" diamter actually and 2 ft. high. The check plot me! close by showed no aspens at all. 1. 40'+40' plot with 11 aspens ranging up to 2 ft. high. Aspence show good leader. Nichols counted 7 seedling aspen within the plot, not seen anywhere outside. 3. Plot # 36 fenced August, 1927. On the edge of the sheep range / on Castle Capy for road. Aspino 10 ft. high. The aspino 20 clumps of aspen almost filling the plot. The yellow pines have grown a foot in one years time as shown by leader. The usual scrubby stuff outside. 4. Plot #37. Nelson Saw Mill. Wild rose in this plot. Several comment that wild rose is a great favorite with deer. The pine leaders outside are untouched for the last 2 yrs.
