June 8, 1931 South Canyon Trip First stop examined ground asaf with water development in view miles east a few very thin aspens seen in V.T. wet place; grass good. Under leaves present. young aspens show browsing in several periods few years back. 2nd hike thru wood to rim of South Can. on overlooking Corral & end of Horse rock valley. Snow bush alder, sprinkled off everywhere but comi back. Few small aspens 4" high. Numerous deer tracks showing deer still on east range. horse & cattle tracks also. Dogs? Forest too dense for much hunting. Loche says it is Mt. lion ban- out. from Idaho say that aspen is just browsed in Idaho, but is here due to scarcity of range - it is relative (generally) Small dwarf ceanothus (Ceanothus) heavly browsed. Not plentiful.
