Kaibab Plateau
June 6, 1931 Cloudy day, 3 days after rain.
Cliff Rose & Mt. Mohogany were in
tree bloom as we came up the
north side of the plateau. All
the chaparral was intensely thick
green but it all showed heavy
browsing as high as deer or sheep
could reach.
Only 1 deer was seen before we
reached VT Ranch. There a herd of
30 were grazing in the meadow.
By 7:00 PM, 96 deer were counted
in the meadow. Grass is every
where green but short. The water holes
are numerous & full. The deer are
in good condition. Short velvet
antlers about 6 inches long and
showing on the bucks.
