From Longmire to Lewis via Skate Creek Trail.
This being just 2 days before opening of the hunting season, we found several hunters at Lewis. One told us that his party of 4 had started for the Pisgah, but upon arriving there, they found 114 other hunters already in/the region. So they came on to the Ohanapecosh region or Summit Creek.
During this hike we saw one Pileated Woodpecker, and heard two more. Crossbills, Chickadees, Robins, were plentiful and a few Crested Jays and [illegible] Gray Jays. Many Aplopeltis furrows were encountered along the trail, especially in the burned over regions.
Fox tracks (or small coyote) were seen in 3 places along the trail.
