1936 from North Park East Rim May 30, 1931 Trip in Ford with Russell & Dixon to Deer Trap via Mt. Carmel Highway. Not sunny day. The forage & cover on the east rim was much like that on the west except for more sage brush. A few small ranches are just east of the park. One plot of 320 acres may soon be sold to sheep owner which will bring sheep that may nearer the park boundary. But no sheep grazing goes or within the east boundary. Some cattle & horses however, are grazed within the park up on Deer Trap Point, which is directly over the lodge down in the valley. These animals are not here by agreement but are left there in spite of park regulations. Jolly the chief ranger permits it. The point was covered with deer tracks, and one pair of antlers was found which would indicate that the deer was there in February or March. The forage is dense & excellent small buffalo grass & lupine beside the chaparral.
